School Food

Schools and their food service vendors across Washington, DC are featuring local food in their school meals during D.C. Farm to School Week!

Chartwells - if your school is served by Chartwells-Thompson, local produce featured during the week will include fresh pears from Bear Mountain Orchards in Aspers, PA; collard greens from Richardson Farm in Owings Mills, MD;  apples from Crown Orchards in Batesville, VA; arugula, butternut squash and spinach Graiff Farms in Newfield, NJ; and broccoli from Parker Farms in Oak Ridge, NJ!  Find more information about their local produce offerings during the week here.

Revolution Foods - if your school is served by Revolution Foods, each day will have a featured local ingredient.  Monday will be bibb lettuce from Mock's Greenhouse in Berkley Springs, WV; Tuesday will be green peppers and Wednesday will be zucchini from Consalo & Sons Farm in Vineland, NJ; Thursday will be collard greens from Richardson Farms in White Marsh, MD; and Friday will be bosc pears from Rice Orchards in Gardeners, PA.  Find more information about which meals will contain the local produce here.

DC Central Kitchen – if your school is served by DC Central Kitchen, local produce featured during the week will include pears from Toigo Orchards in Shippensburg, PA; roasted broccoli from Blue Ridge Produce in Elkwood, VA; apples from Kilmers Orchard in Martinsburg, WV, butternut squash from the Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction in Dayton, VA; and local beef from T&E Meats in Harrisonburg, VA. In addition to purchasing directly from local farmers such as the Toigos and Kilmers, DC Central Kitchen has also established relationships with aggregate sellers, such as Blue Ridge Produce, the Shenandoah Valley Produce auction and T&E Meats, that help connect local farmers to local eaters.
