Here are some simple ways for families and caregivers celebrate D.C. Farm to School Week!
Have your child participate in school meals during the week.
Fresh, locally-grown foods will be the centerpiece of healthy, well-balanced school meals during the week.  Have your child participate in the school meal program October 3-7, 2011 to get in on the action!  You can probably find the exact menu on your school's website.

Know what’s in season. 
Farmers in the Washington, DC area have lots of produce available in October, such as apples, pears, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, winter squash, potatoes, kale, collards, broccoli and cauliflower.

Visit a nearby garden or farm.
There are a number of gardens and farms right here in Washington, DC!  Find a map of community farms and gardens here, and a list of school gardens here.

Find farm-fresh food near you.
Shop at a farmers’ market, where growers bring fresh produce right to your neighborhood. Find a list of markets, including markets that take WIC/EBT here.

Eat local!
